New Genomic Class At National Holstein Show

The 2016 National Holstein Convention Show will include a new competition based on genomics.

The top genomic heifers in the show will compete in the show's new Genomic Championship Class.

Holstein Canada CEO Ann Louise Carson says the idea has been circulating among it's members as Holstein breeders discover the many advantages of genotesting.

The Genomic Grand Champion in the competition wins a thousand dollars, with 500 to the Reserve Champion and 250 to the Honourable Mention animal.

Exhibitors interested in competing have to have their animal's genomic samples to the Holstein Canada office by March 14th to make sure the results will be ready for show time.

The show itself is at the National Holstein Convention in Calgary on April 21st.
