Maple Syrup Linked To Alzheimer's Prevention

The group representing Quebec's maple syrup producers is welcoming research results released earlier this month in the U-S.

A group of international scientists shared the results of 24 studies exploring the beneficial effects of natural products on the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.

The results included pure maple syrup among those products showing promising results.

Serge Beaulieu, President of the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers, says his organisation is excited by those findings.

He says the Federation is committed to investing in scientific research to help better understand the link between food and health.

The research study results were presented at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society.

Symposium organizer Doctor Navindra Seeram cautions, however, that further animal and eventually human studies would be required to confirm those initial findings.
