DFC Launches National Sustainability Initiative

Dairy Farmers of Canada has officially launched it's version of a farm sustainability initiative.

It's called proAction.

DFC describes it as a set of interconnected national standards on milk quality, food safety, animal care, traceability, biosecurity and environment.

President Wally Smith says the initiative demonstrates producers responsible stewardship of their animals and the environment.

ProAction will enable farmers to see how their farm compares to their peers on a national basis.

Overall progress in adhering to those standards will also be reported on-line for people in the food industry and other interested Canadians to check out.

The Dairy Farmers of Canada proAction program was officially launched this week at the Canadian Museum of Agriculture and Food in Ottawa.
