Over 6 Per Cent Increase In Eastern Canadian Hog Slaughter

Total Canadian hog slaughter this year - up to April 16th - is up 4 point 3 per cent from a year ago.

The biggest increase is in Eastern Canada - at 6 point 1 per cent.

Western Canadian hog slaughter is up 1 point 7 per cent so far this year.

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada reports Ontario's weekly hog price for the week ending April 16th was up almost 25 per cent from a year ago.

Live hog exports to the U-S so far this year are running 10 and a half per cent ahead of a year ago.

Total pork imports this year are down 7 percent from the same period in 2015.

That includes a 4 point 3 per cent drop in fresh and frozen pork and a just over 11 per cent drop in processed pork imports so far this year.
