Weather Data System For Southwestern Ontario Crop Growers Gets GF2 Funding

Three Southwestern Ontario companies are getting Growing Forward 2 funding for what they're calling the AGGrower Daily Dashboard project.

The companies involved are AGRIS Co-operative, Wanstead Farmers Co-operative and Haggerty Creek Limited.

The AGGrower Daily Dashboard project will create a precipitation network within the southwestern ONtario micro-region the co-operatives serve.

It will integrate over 500 public and volunteer sources of daily weather data and use next generation unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance.

The project's stated goal is to help growers better identify, respond quickly and efficiently to climactic events.

Spokesman Dale Cowan says it will also provide the information needed to fine-tune operational and input decision making by crop and by individual field.

Almost 560 thousand dollars from Growing Forward 2 is going into the development of the AGGrower Daily Dashboard.
