Ontario Crop Specialist North American Award Winner

A crop specialist with AGRIS in Cottam is the only Ontario recipient of Growmark's Endure 4R Advocate Award this year.

Chris Snip has worked at AGRIS Co-operative for 16 years.

Snip says he really started appreciating the 4R approach after seeing a large algae bloom in the western basin of Lake Erie in the fall of 2011.

The award recognizes the work with farmers in using the 4R approach to nutrient stewardship, assisting growers with fertilizer management and implementing a nitrogen monitoring program like N-WATCH.

The four other recipients of this year's award are from Ohio, New Jersey and two from Illinois.

GROWMARK spokesman Lance Ruppert says they are excited to recognize these crop specialists for their dedication to working with farmers on sustainable best management practices.
