Quebec Growers Harvest $400M Maple Syrup Crop

Quebec had a record maple syrup season this spring.

Producers set a new record with 148 point 2 million pounds of syrup - 23 per cent higher than the previous provincial record, set in 2013.

Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers President Serge Beaulieu says at times the sap flow from the trees was so strong it was hard to keep up with the boiling.

This year's harvest is estimated to be worth 400 million dollars.

Over 80 per cent of Quebec's maple syrup is exported to over 53 countries.

A spokesman for the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers didn't have final numbers but had called this year a one in 10 year in terms of above normal volume, sugar content and flavour for this province's producers.
