More Federal Hog Slaughter, Less Provincial Slaughter In Canada This Year

Federal hog slaughter in Canada so far this year is up 2 point 3 per cent from a year ago.

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada reports provincial hog slaughter numbers are off about 5 thousand head from a year ago while federal slaughter numbers are up over 200 thousand for a net difference of just under 200 thousand head.

Exports of live pork to the U-S are 6 point 5 per cent higher so far this year than last year.

The U-S hog slaughter last week was just over 2 point 2 million head, down 2 point 6 per cent from the week before, 1 point 8 per cent from the same week last year.

Last Friday's national negotiated barrow and gilt price in the U-S was $80.37 per hundredweight, up 77 cents on the week and almost 8 dollars higher than a year ago.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
