Lower Animal Production Costs Pushed Down First Quarter Farm Inputs

Farm input prices were down in the first quarter of this year.

Statscan says they were down just over 2 per cent from the last quarter of 2015 and down just under 2 per cent from a year ago.

The numbers agency says lower animal production input costs were the major factor in both the quarterly and year-over-year declines.

Animal production costs were down almost 3 per cent from the last quarter of 2015 and down almost 2 per cent from a year ago.

Farm input costs in Ontario were down 1 point 2 per cent from quarter to quarter, down about half a per cent from the year before.
