Quebec Maple Syrup Industry Planning Major Expansion

The organisation representing Quebec maple syrup producers plans to have 5 million new taps in place for next year.

The Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers has been given the green light by a provincial government body for its production quota policy.

Federation president Serge Beaulieu says those new taps are expected to generate investments of at least 100 million dollars in Quebec's maple syrup producing regions.

They're also expected to produce about 15 million more pounds of maple syrup.

Beaulieu says that will help reinforce Quebec's position as a maple syrup leader.

40 thousand of those new tapes will be allocated to young entrepreneur producers between the ages of 18 and 39.

Over 1 point 3 million will go to startups.

The remaining 3 point 6 million tapes will go to Quebec producers who already have a quota and would like to expand their business.
