Ontario Potato Acreage Up Slightly, National Acreage Down

The number of acres planted to potatoes is down this year in Canada, but up slightly in Ontario.

Statistics Canada reports total acreage was down almost 2 per cent from 2015.

Statscan says that continues an overall downward trend of the past 12 years.

Acreage was down in all provinces except Ontario, Quebec and B-C.

Prince Edward Island continues to account for the biggest number of potato planted acres, at 26 per cent of the national total.

Manitoba is second at 19 per cent.

Ontario's potato acreage comes to about 10 per cent of the national total.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
