Provincial Recognition For Young Huron County Dairy Farmer

A Huron County dairy farmer has received a provincial award.

Derek Van Dieten is one of four Ontario Dairy Youth Award winners for 2016.

Van Dieten is a past Director of the Huron County Holstein Club, served as the club's President in 2013 and is currently the second Vice-Chair of the Huron County Dairy Producer Committee.

The Ontario Dairy Youth Award recognizes young people actively involved in the operation of a dairy farm who have demonstrated leadership and taken an active role in their communities and within their breed.

It's supported through the Ontario Dairy Youth Trust Fund and Gay Lea Foods.

Van DIeten won for the Western region.

Laura Shuurman of Brant-Wentworth was the West-Central winner, John Werry of Ontario County the East-Central winner and Jason Gould of Renfrew County the Eastern Region winner.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
