Deadline Nears For Grassland Stewardship Funding

Farmers can get funding support for projects to improve hayfields and pastures.

The Grassland Stewardship Program is aimed at projects to benefit bobolink and other grassland birds on provincial farms.

Pasture rejuvenation and delayed grazing are a couple of the best management practices that could qualify for funding under the program.

It uses a competitive bid process.

Applications are being taken until August 15th.

This year's program has a new element - what's called Conservation Agreements.

These are between funded producers and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Those agreements provide habitat protection for sensitive grassland birds while providing producers a funding guarantee for multi-year projects.
