University of Guelph Gets Funding For Green Innovation

Some big funding for the University of Guelph.

The federal and provincial governments will combine for 30 million dollars towards research and innovation at the University.

26.2 million dollars is coming out of the federal Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund, also known as SIF.

The university says much of the funding will go towards a bio-carbon innovation and commercialization centre.

They're hoping to make plastics out of green composites.

The goal is to replace petroleum-based products out of more environmentally friendly options, particularly in the automotive industry.

1.9 billion dollars will be sent to Ontario university and colleges through SIF funding.
