Father Teaches Son At IPM

There's a rich history of competition involved in the International Plowing Match.

Many generations have taken part throughout the 98 previous competitions.

The 99th brings a new one, young Cole Brodhacker is being coached by his father. Proud dad Mark says it's special to carry on what's become a family tradition.

"It's a real treat," says the elder Brodhacker. "I've gone through this, my dad taught me and his dad taught him. Just pass the torch down the line."

Brodhacker, who is from Ayr, also says it's amazing to see what a large event the IPM has become after starting as a small competition a century ago.

Mark has been all over the nation and parts of the globe as a plower.

Cole says he's hoping to follow those footsteps abroad as well, as his dad still talks about those trips today.

"I hope to go to the world's one day. My dad has always bragged about how nice Croatia was so I want to experience that."

With 1,250 ac contracted from nearby farms for the plowing match, Mark thanks those who have offered up their land to keep the match going.
