Minister Of Agriculture Says China Trade Vital

Last week brought a massive boost to the nation's agricultural trade relations with China.

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Canada's Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, says increasing exports to a population of $1.3-billion was vital for the country.

He notes the world-wide demand for food is expected to increase by 60% in just three decades and Canada needs to be in a good position to be a part of it.

Some citizens may be concerned that sending extra exports to Asia might take away from those sent to the U.S. and Mexico.

The Minister says as far as he's concerned, he'll trade to any country that has the money to buy Canadian food.

He adds Canada's exports will continue to grow as we have the reputation of providing the safest food in the world.
