Corn Tar Spot Found In Michigan

This year's corn cycle may be coming to an end but that hasn't stopped a new disease from spreading north into Michigan.

Corn tar spot was recently discovered on a dryland Michigan farm.

Michigan State University say they're investigating the matter further.

They feel there should be little affect on this year's corn crop as it is now late in September.

However, they'd like to determine if the disease will be a threat moving forward.

Just like the name says, corn tar spot can be identified by tiny black spots on the surface of the leaves. The bumpy texture cannot be easily rubbed off.

Tar spot was first discovered in the midwest U.S. last summer.
