Beef Prices Mixed Last Week

After one week of gains, the Beef Farmers of Ontario are reporting a return to declining fed cattle prices again last week.

They note fed steers averaged $125.71, down $3.38 from the week before.

Fed heifer prices dropped by more than four dollars to an average of $121.84.

Both are about 40 dollars below last year's prices.

BFO says the cull cow market started strong last Monday but declined as the week went on. The 1,895 head were 97 more than the week prior, leading to a $4.01 dip in prices.

They also note stocker and feeder cattle were slightly stronger.

But by comparison, heavier weights still averaged 60-70 dollars less than last year's prices, lighter weights are down 70-95 dollars.

The largest uptick last week was seen in the Ontario railgrade prices, averaging $3.25 more than the 7 days prior.
