Organic Producers Set To Benefit From Trade Arrangement

Canadian organic producers and processors have much to gain in a new trade arrangement with Switzerland.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the expanded arrangement now allows organic multi-ingredient processed products to be exported to our Swiss partners.

Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, says the new deal is particularly good for Canada's organic growers and processors who will serve Switzerland's processed food and beverage market.

Canada and Switzerland originally deemed their organic systems to be equivalent in 2012.

The CFIA points out the Swiss organic market is the eighth largest in the world, valued at $2.66 billion in 2014, which was an increase of 7.5 per cent from the year before.
