Beef Strategy Developed After Two Years of Research

The Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef has released the results of its two-year "farm to fork" study.

The National Beef Sustainability Assessment and Strategy is the first of its kind for the nation's beef industry.

The CRSB says the information gathered by the science-based study will help the industry better communicate with its partners, stakeholders and the public.

They're hoping the strategy will ensure a focus on the areas that need help the most.

Executive Director of the CRSB Fawn Jackson says the results of the study reflect positively on Canada's beef industry.

The study determined Canadian cattle producers to be very efficient in regards to limiting greenhouse gases.

She notes there are still opportunities for financial improvement, which is why the strategy was created.

The study found margins to be small at every stage of the process.

A 200 head cow-herd provides on average an annual income of about 17,500 dollars.

As a result, 74 to 85 per cent of cow/calf farms producers rely on off-farm income.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
