Farm Input Prices Declining

Statistics Canada is reporting decreased farming costs.

The Farm Input Index Price Index decreased by .9 per cent in the second quarter of this year.

StatsCan attributes the decline mainly to animal production which dipped by 4.6 per cent.

Of livestock, cattle saw the steepest drop in input costs at 13.9 per cent.

The second quarter index fell in five provinces, of which Ontario was second at 1.5 per cent.

Year over year farm input prices dropped by a little more than 4 per cent from 2015.

StatsCan also points out machinery and auto costs were up by 3.4 per cent, which they say comes mostly from an 18 point increase in prices for machinery fuel.
