Ag Trade Mission To China Generates Sales

Canada's Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food has wrapped up his 10-day trade mission to China.

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay and a delegation of over 100 industry representatives from all 10 provinces held meetings with Chinese ministers, agriculture business, and food exporters.

The minister says he's pleased to be building on Canada's strong trading relationship with the world's fastest growing consumer market.

He feels China is a vital market for Canadian agricultural processors, producers and exporters.

The minister and his team also attended two trade shows while in China.

Representatives say they've acquired more than 5,000 leads, of which they feel 30 per cent will lead to future business.

They also report approximately $37 million in on-site sales while on the trade mission, with an additional $230 million in expected sales over the next year.
