EDHS Brings Farm Experience To The School

A Wellington County high school is bringing an innovative farm project to its students.

Erin District High School, with support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, has teamed up with the Upper Grand District School Board and Ontario's Everdale to put a teaching farm on an unused piece of land in front of the school.

The Youth Leadership Farm will be run by students at every step of the process, including planning, planting, harvesting and distribution, giving them the chance to take full responsibility and pride in what they grow.

EDHS says the goal of the farm project, featured in mobile raised production beds, is to teach students leadership, teamwork and other real-life skills.

The out-of-class experience will also feature workshops with Everdale farmers, local business owners, and chefs.

Everdale is a farm-based organization which provides hands-on farm-related education.
