Rural Internet Access Getting A Boost This Spring

Farmers and rural dwellers in Canada will have access to a supply of faster internet beginning next spring.

Earlier this week, Xplornet sent a new satellite into orbit from Cape Canaveral in Florida.

The company says the EchoStar XIX satellite is the highest capacity broadband satellite ever launched.

The new system will triple the company's current satellite internet capacity.

Xplornet President Allison Lenehan says the new network will measurably improve service to customers with data at speeds not yet seen in many parts of the country.

The 6.7 tonne satellite is the first of two to be launched to complete the upgrade of the network.
