New Maple Syrup Regulations Now In Effect

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency wants to remind syrup producers that amendments to the Maple Products Regulations put forth two years ago are now in effect.

The phased-in changes refer to the standardization of the different grades and colour classes of maple syrup.

The agency notes the steps were made to create an equal standard for both Canadian and American products.

Lot numbers and production codes are also now mandatory to make tracking products easier.

The CFIA also points out the amendments do not affect food safety regulations in any way.
