Light Cattle Sales For Holidays

The Beef Farmers of Ontario report very light sales of cattle last week due to the holiday season.

The group also points out sale prices were somewhat skewed due to the reduced sample sizes.

Fed steer prices took a dip of $4.09 from the week prior while fed heifer prices decreased by 66 cents.

BFO notes cull cow sales last week were still quite high considering the time of year.

The 2,126 head sold were 1,100 more than the same time last year.

Cull cow prices hit an average of $64.31, up $1.52 from a week earlier but still $15.36 below 2015's mark.

The farmers also report Ontario railgrade prices lost 25 cents throughout the week.
