Beef Farmers Get Post-Christmas Present In Prices

Cattle farmers around the province could celebrate last week, not just for the holidays but also for huge gains across the market.

The Beef Farmers of Ontario report fed steer prices took a leap of $10.83 throughout the week, averaging $139.19.

Fed heifers sold for an average of $141.75, up $9.37 from the prior week.

BFO notes Ontario railgrade prices, while still 32 and a half dollars below prices from a year ago, picked up $9.25 as well last week.

Cull cow prices came in at an average of $72.30, an increase of almost 8 dollars.

The farmers also point out 1,842 stocker and feeder cattle traded with steady to stronger prices through the week.
