Loonie Will Factor Significantly In Ag Sector This Year

Farm Credit Canada's Chief Agricultural Economist feels the top economic factor in 2017 will be the loonie.

J.P. Gervais says the Canadian dollar will impact all businesses connected to the agri-food supply chain.

He notes the balance of our buck against the U.S. dollar can propel profits either higher or lower, thus it's the biggest driver to watch this year.

The economist adds other factors to play big in the lives of Canadian farmers this year will be energy costs, commodity prices, the global economy as well as investment potential for U.S. companies into businesses north of the border.

Gervais also points out he's hosting a webinar on February 8th, which will give producers a chance to ask him questions and discuss all involved with farm business.
