Drumbo Farmers Take DHI's Best Managed Herd Award

A trio of family farmers from Drumbo have won CanWest DHI's Best Managed Herd Award for 2016.

Larenwood Farms, run by Chris, Grant and Dan McLaren scored a 985 out of 1000, to lead the 8,000 DHI herds across Canada.

The McLaren's herd is the nation's best for the second year in a row, and number one in the province for the third straight year.

Chris McLaren notes every herd has ups and downs, and he feels fortunate for a three-year stretch of ups.

He says the family doesn't do anything special, they just do all the little things.

He adds they try to do the best for their cows, and they've returned the favour through their production.

The DHI Herd Management Score is tabulated from six different management areas.

Brakke Farms of Grand Valley and Greiden Farms of St. Marys were both named to the top ten list as well.
