Fed Cattle Exports Well Down From A Year Ago

The Beef Farmers of Ontario say fed cattle exports to the U.S. for the month of January totaled 1,775, which is only a third of what left Ontario for the states during the same month last year.

Last week fed heifer prices declined by 88 cents to an average of $144.23.

Fed steers meanwhile gained $2.71, selling for $147.15.

BFO points out last week's cull cow market was strong, going for an average of $78.46, up $2.65 on the previous week's six-month high.

The organization also notes last week marked a six consecutive week of steady prices for the Ontario railgrade market.
