Ontario Dairy Cash Receipts Increase Doubles National Average

Year-over-year growth of total cash receipts for Ontario dairy farmers was more than double that of the national average in December.

Statistics Canada notes Ontario producers saw a 10 and a half per cent jump in receipts to $185.2 million.

Canada as a whole had receipts reach $545 million for the month, an increase of 4.2 per cent.

Milk sales were down as well by 1.8 per cent.

The agency also reports cheddar cheese stocks to start the new year were slightly up from a year ago, while process cheese stocks were 2.7 per cent higher at almost 7,800 tonnes.
