US Cattle Inventories Continue To Climb

Cattle inventories south of the border continue to grow.

The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service reports the number of U.S. cattle in feedlots of a thousand or more to start February hit 10.8 million head.

That's an increase of 1 per cent on last year's total.

The department notes placements in those feedlots during January totalled 1.98 million head, 11 per cent more than in 2016, while net placements were 1.93 million.

Marketings for the month were also up by 10 per cent on last year, at 1.75 million.

NASS says those marketings represented more than 87 per cent of all marketed cattle in America.
