China Planning On Importing More Pork Despite Growing Domestic Production

China's pork imports for 2017 are now expected to top 3 million tonnes.

Juhui Huang, Shanghai-based Vice-President for BRF, says global prices are still attractive for the country to keep importing pork, even as its own production continues to increase.

China is currently rebuilding its domestic herd after a widespread cull in 2014 when prices were low.

Reuters reports China's Dalian Commodity Exchange is planning to launch hog futures by the end of 2017.

Half of earth's pork consumption occurs in the land of the Red Dragon.
