Agriculture Census Out Next Week

As Canada continues to celebrate its 150th anniversary, Canadians will soon get a glimpse into one of the sectors that has played a leading role in the story of their nation.

Statistics Canada will release the results from the 2016 Census of Agriculture next Wednesday.

The comprehensive collection of data touches on everything from the numbers of farms, their average size and the commodities they produce to the people who run them including their age, gender and how much they work both on and off the farm.

Other topics to be covered in the first release and in a series of articles in the weeks to follow include direct marketing, technology, organic operations, energy, livestock, field crops and irrigation.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
