Huron County municipality says no to backyard chickens

There will be no chickens or livestock in settlement areas in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.

Reeve Glen McNeil explains a request came to council from an individual asking that they be allowed to raise chickens in the backyard of the home in a settlement area. That is currently not allowed under their zoning bylaw.

McNeil says council concluded that the reason people choose to live in a settlement area is that they don't have livestock next door to them.

McNeil says council felt obligated to respect that choice and leave the zoning bylaw as it stands, so there won't be any changes.
