Ontario agriculture minister announces changes to loan program

Changes to key lending programs to help farmers and reduce red tape were announced by Ontario's Minister of Ag, Food and Rural affairs on Wednesday.

Improvements to the Feeder Cattle Loan Guarantee program were announced by Ernie Hardeman at the Beef Farmers of Ontario's Annual General Meeting held at the Delta Hotel on Dixon Road in Toronto.

Hardeman noted the changes will quote-"reduce red tape and overall costs for co-ops, resulting in a better program for our farmers".

The government also proposed changes to the Ministry of Ag, Food and Rural Affairs Act that, if passed, would allow future program changes to be made faster.

The changes are part of the government's multi-year Ontario Open for Business Action Plan, which includes a target to reduce regulatory red tape affecting businesses by 25%.
