More plastic containers being returned to ag-retail and municipal collection sites

Cleanfarms Canada says 5.8 million empty plastic containers were returned to ag-retail and municipal collection sites in 2018.

That is a 14 per cent increase from the previous year.

The recycling program is marking its 30th anniversary with an estimated 126 million plastic jugs being turned into products like garbage bags, flexible irrigation pipe and farm drainage tile.

Cleanfarms estimates a return rate of approximately 65 per cent.

The recycling initiative expanded into plastic grain bags last year.
