Exeter area farmer a conservationist of the year

Keith Strang, and his sons Geoff and Mike, from the Exeter area, are the winners of this year's Ausable Bayfield Conservationist of the Year Award.

ABCA Communication Specialist, Tim Cumming, says the Strangs use cover crops, crop rotation and vegetative cover to build soil health and prevent soil erosion. They have also established watercourse buffers and restored a wetland.

The local farm family is also innovative with conservation tillage, variable seeding, and fertilizing. He adds, they are also very generous with their time in speaking to their peers at events related to agriculture and soil health.

This year's Conversation Dinner had to be a virtual event, so Cumming says the Strangs will be formally presented with their award later this year.
