Avian flu confirmed in Huron County

A poultry flock in Huron County is the 19th confirmation of avian influenza in Ontario.

And it's the first detection in the local area since the bird flu was confirmed in a flock in West Grey, near Hanover, on April 9th.

Overall there have been 19 confirmed cases of avian influenza in poultry flocks and small flocks in Ontario dating back to March 27th.

More cases are also being confirmed in other parts of the country.

The only province NOT reporting cases of bird flu is PEI. And there are no reported cases in the territories.

The CFIA puts each infected premise under quarantine and establishes movement control measures and is recommending enhanced biosecurity for other farms within each area.
