A Tribute To Matte (GALLERY & VIDEO)

The community of Amherstburg is remembering Michael Matte as an energetic and upbeat person.Football teammates, friends and family members stood outside of General Amherst High School with candles in hand, telling stories about the teen last night.

Matte's uncle Tom Colombe says his nephew was a funny kid who had a heart of gold. "He'd put his arm around you and say, 'I've got this.' This (vigil) is a tribute. This is what Mike will be remembered as -- as a teammate, as a friend, and as a loved one to our family."

Matte suddenly passed away from carbon monoxide poisoning on Saturday.

The General Amherst Bull Dogs will play in his honour Thursday. Visitation for Matte is slated for Friday afternoon and evening, with the funeral Saturday morning.
