40 Years of Female Officers

The Ontario Provincial Police are celebrating the anniversary of first hiring women onto the force.

Constable Janine Belanger is an eight-year veteran with the Chatham-Kent OPP. She says shes proud to be a female police officer, but adds 40 years realistically isn't that long ago. "We are seeing more females coming on. We're also seeing more females being promoted to higher ranks."

Belanger also has some advice for women who want to get into her line of work. "If you have a strong passion and a desire to help others, if you can get out there and get more information...make that decision."

OPP are holding anniversary celebrations at their head office in Orillia.
