School Boards Set For Challenges

Both the St. Clair Catholic School Board and Lambton Kent District School Board kicked off a new term on Tuesday.

The SCCDSB pool of trustees looks nearly identical to last term. There's just one new face: Mat Roop. Director of Education Dan Parr says this means they can pick up right where they left off. "They understand that sometimes they're elected to make tough decisions that serves the need of the whole system," says Parr.

Issues of dwindling funding as well as decreased enrollment are outlined as challenges moving forward. Roop says these can be taken care of with proper planning. "Before you make any decisions you have to collect all of the data, gather up all of the knowledge that's available," says Roop. "And working with that, you come up with solutions."

The board's next meeting is set for January 27, 2015.
