Police Deal With Intoxicated Residents

Alcohol got the better of a pair of Chatham-Kent residents in two separate incidents.

At around 1am this morning, police say a car drove off the road, striking a house on Chippewa St. in Chatham, and then fled the scene. When police caught up with it, they found the driver was impaired by alcohol. Now a 17-year-old Chatham youth is charged with impaired driving, failing to remain at an accident as well as theft and possession of stolen property.

Earlier in the night, police also received a call about an intoxicated man causing a disturbance on King St. Police took the man in to sleep off the night of drinking. While in custody they say the man tried to flush his shirt down the toilet, flooding part of his cell.

He's now charged with criminal mischief and will appear in court.
