Pricey Consultation For Thamesville Bridge

Chatham-Kent Council is looking at a $440,000 price tag to hire a consulting firm for work on the Thamesville Bridge.

Manager of Infrastructure and Transportation Stephen Jahns doesn't feel the bill is unreasonable considering the project.

"That is in the neighbourhood when you consider that the overall structure could be in the order of probably $12-14-million as far as the work which could be anticipated," says Jahns, adding engineering reviews of the bridge are badly needed. "There were some conditional issues which warranted action over the next year to ensure that a load posting didn't need to be imposed on this particular structure."

Jahns assures residents a public consultation meeting will be held before any construction takes place.

Kitchener company AECOM is being recommended for the engineering services consultation work needed for the rehabilitation of the bridge.
