Budget Keys Prudence And Strategy

Chatham-Kent's new budget chair isn't shy about saying his business and council experience give him the skills for the job.

But Derek Robertson says common sense and purpose are needed from all of council.

If this council adheres to a strategic direction we can be very prudent with our dollars, we can prioritize properly and we can return a result that will be fruitful for years to come," he says. "We need to be a little more focused in our strategic direction and stay away from buzz words."

Robertson doesn't like the idea of setting a tax target, but he believes a responsible budget with opportunity for economic growth can be achieved in a zero to 2% range.
