SIU Charges Officer In Crash

An Ontario Provincial Police officer is expected to appear in a Windsor courtroom after a crash involving a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle in St. Joachim.

The driver of the civilian vehicle suffered serious injuries in the crash at the intersection of County Rd. 42 and County Rd. 31 the afternoon of October 24.

The Special Investigations Unit investigated, and now Constable Jamie Porto faces one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He's expected to appear in court January 22.

The SIU investigates whenever there's an incident with police involving death, serious injury or sexual assault. Now that the matter is before the courts, it says it will make no further comment.
