Belle River Breakwall Maintenance Needed

The Town of Lakeshore is looking for money to help ERCA repair the Belle River Flood Control Project.

Director of Watershed Management Tim Byrne says there's up to $170,000 of work that needs to be done to a breakwall, which stretches along part of the marina and two other properties. "On those other two properties, they're kind of a mixed bag of steel and concrete. Basically, they're at their maximum design lifetime and they're starting to go into rotational failure. The winter last year took a significant toll on the walls."

If the breakwall is left alone, the town risks future erosion and flooding issues along the shores of Lake St. Clair.

Half of the funding for repairs is expected to come from Lakeshore, while ERCA is asking the provincial government to provide the rest.
