Freezing Rain Expected

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Chatham-Kent and most of southern Ontario, with snow and freezing rain in the short-term forecast.

Severe Weather Meteorologist Desjanelle Matthews says in Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex, the worst of it will take place tomorrow as up to 10 cm (4 in) of snow could fall on the region before the temperature warms up.

"We're expecting precipitation to start on Saturday morning as snow and then transitioning to rain, but there will be a risk of freezing rain in that transition," says Matthews. "Once the transition to rain occurs we're not expecting any freezing rain after that."

Matthews says once the temperature climbs above the freezing mark, it's expected to stay there until late Sunday night.
