Flu Hits Chatham-Kent

An outbreak of influenza in Chatham-Kent has the public health unit closely monitoring institutions like long-term care facilities.

Public Health Nurse Nadeane Brull says there are about 20 cases and it's a different strain than many had been prepared for.

"What we are seeing is an increase in Influenza A activity and Influenza A typically does hit the elderly harder," she says. "This year's vaccine doesn't cover it as well."

Five long-term care facilities have some form of visitor restrictions although they are not banning visitors.
