Ottawa Taking Control Of Blue Water Bridge

Ottawa is set to take over decision making at Blue Water Bridge Canada as early as next month.

Board Chair Marcel Beaubien says the federal government will operate four international crossings under a single Crown Corporation known as the Federal Bridge Corporation Ltd.

He says a new board, with seven government appointed members, will run international bridges in Sault Ste. Marie, Cornwall, Lansdowne and Pt Edward.

However, Blue Water Bridge Canada's current Chief Operating Officer John Elliot's position will cease, as will the board.

A new management position will oversee daily operations.

Whether or not a local representative will be appointed to the new board remains unknown.

Beaubien says he has some reservations, but he's been assured by Transport Canada that the bridge will be maintained to the same standard it's held the past 75 years.
